Received aviary promptly and well packaged. All in order and nothing missing.
Based on pictures I already knew it would need adapting. Moved the 2 doors to the end of the flight run, joined the doors together to make one large door, reinforced the 2 joining panels. I would never have got down low enough to get inside. Fixed another piece of mesh part way down on the inside so all I have to do is duck my head to get in. As there is no safety porch I fitted an aluminium chain door curtain as a security measure - it works and the birds don't like the noise and fly down the other end - care is still needed but much better. My garden is quite windy so I didn't trust a roof that opened - screwed this shut - didn't make any sense to me to have an opening roof on an aviary. The roof is not made of solid wood (a frame covered with thin ply) - I added another layer of roofing felt to give more substance and hopefully more weather resistance.
Another reviewer mentioned that there is no small door to allow feeding without opening a bigger door. This is ok as long as all birds are in the flight area and you can close their hatch before opening the loft door. To combat this I moved the panel round and made a smaller door where the smaller square of mesh is. Also made more sense to have hinges on left of large door rather than door dropping, down, can now feed birds if they are still in the loft.
Raised the whole thing up on 6 inch decking board - gives just enough height to enable me to stand up inside, it also added a good solid base to the framing.
The one thing I couldn't see from the pictures was the rather thin mesh - I wouldn't trust it would be suitable for parrots as I had no trouble cutting mesh with lightweight snips. But as I am only housing finches it is adequate.
I insulated the loft box and lined it with wipeable vinyl.
Where the sloping roof joined the flight area a small gap was left near the highest part of the roof - couldn't see what I had done wrong but rectified by screwing a piece of batten on the inside of flight area to cover gap through which a tiny finch would definitely have escaped.
The instructions were adequate once you got used to what you were looking at. Apart from getting help with lifting top section onto bottom section I built it solo.
My overall view - in it's actual original format it feels more suited to animals rather than birds but with adaptions it functions well and birds and hoomans love it. It was a good starting point for the money. Perhaps more suited for inside use rather than outside. Other more seemingly `robust` aviaries are mega bucks though and I knew I could adapt this for little extra cost having most of extra materials left over from previous projects.
Great value for the money .Well made .simple to make up. Good all round.
This is the third cover I have bought
due to them being torn in high winds. They fit perfectly and look smart on the cage but the fastenings could be stronger.
We recieved the replacement trike cover the very next day after ordering. Can't fault the service. But upon erecting it over the existing frame the fabric tore while attaching it. I have been in touch through email and was told someone would get back to me ASAP. Not heard anything yet.
Great service.
The item fits as described and was delivered faster than expected. Thanks a lot.
